BRINGING MORE CALM INTO YOUR LIFE Part 1 Many years ago someone was telling me how frantic her life as a working mother with 2 young children was. She told me, “On Monday mornings I feel like we are shot out of a cannon and we don’t land until Friday night”. I think many people feel that way – some might even say they have not landed yet! So what can people do to bring more calm into their lives? We all have some levels of stress in our live. Stress in and of itself is not inherently “bad”. It is when we have an overload of stress that we cannot manage well that stress can overwhelm us (physically as well as emotionally). Overwhelming stress can occur in our lives for varying reasons –

SOOTHING DIAPHRAGM BREATHING Although I prefer to work directly with people (versus writing words) so that I may place my hands on them as needed, see how they respond to my words, and respond to them, I will here give a written explanation of a version of a basic soothing diaphragm breathing exercise. This is a soothing breath pattern. PLEASE DO NOT POWER YOUR WAY THROUGH IT. This breath will help bring you out of a “Flight or Fight “ response, and into what I call “Rest and Reset”. 1) In order for breath to be taken into our lungs – as we inhale - more space must be made for that incoming breath. Opposition Without oppositional flows we would be in a puddle on the ground I am always so excited for my clients when chronic areas of pain/restriction/weakness let go. My experience has been that this happens more readily, and lasts longer, when our sessions combine Bodywork Beyond Massage’s Movement Education with Therapeutic Bodywork.
